SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
Our design incorporates a patented single lens optics that emits light evenly through a large continous aperture at 400lm per sq/in with absolutely no breakage within the aperture. Contrast that with the multiple optics design of all other sports lighters that force 2000+ lumens per sq/in through hundreds of pinhole optics. The extreme brightness and breakage within the aperture causes the glare that has become infamous in the industry.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Glare is the single biggest issue facing LED sports lighting fixtures. Our single lens optics is the only solution that can significantly reduce glare and improve the lighting on the field.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER: Yes. Our factory that produces our fixtures is a wholly-owned contract manufacturing company.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Controlling the manufacturing process is essential to ensure build quality. When a lighting company doesn’t own the manufacturing, they are at the mercy of the processes of the third party manufacturer. Often times, they are not aware of quality issues until after their product has been deployed in the field.

We employ intelligent, active cooling and state-of-the-art heat pipe technologies to ensure that our heat sensitive components remain at a constant temperature. The result is long term reliability and no light degradation due to overheating.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Heat is the most significant factor in the life reduction of any LED fixture. Consequently, proper heat management is absolutely essential in ensuring a fixture’s longevity.

We are, 100%. As owners of the factory, we set up very detailed quality control processes and can ensure that they are followed each and every time.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Quality control isn’t just about incoming inspection of a product. Proper quality control starts at the component level and carries through all the way to final delivery. If a company relies on third parties to do this, they are rolling the dice on the quality of the final product.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Relying on third parties to develop core technologies is usually a poor model for any business. Many of the important technical details are poorly understood, not properly implemented or simply overlooked. For lighting companies, this often results in a fixture that is inefficient, overpowered, underpowered or not built to last more than a few years – regardless of the warranty that they offer.

Our founders have been designing and manufacturing advanced LED fixtures since 2002, when LED first became efficient enough for lighting purposes. This gives Sportsbeams more LED fixture experience than any other sports lighting company in the world.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
HIDs have dominated the sports lighting market for decades. But HIDs were never a very sophisticated technology. Designing, engineering and manufacturing true LED sports lighting fixtures, however, requires the experience and knowledge of a technology company, not a sales and marketing company. Just as horse breeders didn’t suddenly start making automobiles at the turn of the last century, it’s unreasonable to think that an HID manufacturer can suddenly become an expert in LED lighting.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
Yes. Due to our active cooling, we can mount our fixture in any position.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Almost all LED sports lighting fixtures with passive heat sinks have significant limitations on their mounting angles. The heat sinks are designed for specific airflow and failure to mount them at the proper angle can result in significant reduction of fixture life as heat management begins to fail.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
All of our fixtures run 48V DC to the LED.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?LED fixtures either utilize pulse width modulation (PWM) or DC. PWM is easier to engineer, but results in significant flickering, especially with high-resolution cameras. DC power directly to the LED ensures flicker-free lighting at any frame resolution. Lower voltage to the fixture results in significantly less heat, thereby prolonging the life of the fixture. Additionally, any fixture that utilizes more than 60V poses a real electrocution danger to installers and technicians.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
Yes. We spent years developing our own driver to match our fixture perfectly. We selected and tested components that we could use across all fixtures, thereby controlling quality even further.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
One of the first signs that a lighting company doesn’t understand LED technology is if they sourced a completed driver rather than engineering one on their own. They do this because they are either trying to cut corners or they don’t understand the technology well enough to do it themselves. The result is a driver that will either fail outright much sooner than expected or is not matched up correctly to get optimal performance out of the LED array that they have chosen, resulting in much shorter fixture life.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
We designed each of our fixtures from the ground up to be the longest lasting sports fixtures available by addressing three key issues of led fixture failure: heat, moisture and power.

Our active cooling with heat pipe technology keeps heat sensitive components at a constant temperature. Doing so ensures that the components aren’t exposed to the stress of contracting and expanding found in other fixtures with passive cooling. Additionally, with our onboard intelligence, our fixture can immediately identify and address any cooling problems that can decrease light output or lifespan. In the manufacturing process, we employ a number of proprietary sealing techniques that ensures that water, dust or debris will not effect our fixture.

Finally, we designed our own driver to deliver exactly 48V of DC power to the LED. This ensures that the LED will not be over driven and that excessive power will not generate excess heat.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
A warranty is not worth much if the product the warranty covers is not designed, engineered and manufactured to last. LED fixture manufacturers must address issues of heat, moisture and power from the earliest stages of design. Failure to adequately address these issues will result in inevitable fixture failure months or years after deployment in field.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
Our fixtures do not use any plastics in the critical path. They are only used for decorative edges.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Almost all sports lighting fixtures rely on plastic TIR lenses that sit right on top of individual LEDs. These poly carbonate lenses denature in sunlight due to UV exposure. This results in cloudy lenses that reduce light output by up to 25% in five years. Worse, light angles are altered significantly. No plastic can maintain original integrity in an outdoor environment for more than a few years. It is essential that they not be incorporated in a critical capacity in an outdoor LED fixture. Doing so is a major indication of poor design and engineering.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
Each of our fixtures has a MAC address and can be accessed via built-in ethernet. Individual fixtures can be networked together through standard networking equipment and then controlled by our proprietary software or a standard DMX controller. This allows for instant control of the lights to maximize entertainment possibilities.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Many LED sports lighting fixtures rely on proprietary control systems that cause significant delays between command response as they are not controlled centrally, but rather through a fixture-to-fixture technology.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Some sports lighting manufacturers know that they will not compare favorably on a either a fixture by fixture comparison or a feature by feature comparison. Consequently, they don’t make information freely available. Instead, they rely on sophisticated sales and marketing techniques to win customers.

SPORTSBEAMS’ ANSWER:
Our LEDs are discreetly mounted. This means that, up until the day of production, we can populate our board with the latest LED available. This ensures that our customer always receives top-of-the-line technology.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Any other LED mounting technology requires that the LED, lens, power and housing be designed concurrently. The result of this limiting design is that by the time an LED fixture comes to market, the LED maybe several years old. The LED market continues to advance quickly. A good design gives customers the latest technology available. Poor design will keep customers years behind the latest advancements.

In the unlikely event that our driver has failed, it can be replaced in a matter of seconds.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Many fixture designs make it very difficult to replace the driver and, consequently, the entire fixture must be replaced as a result.
